Why is the dough hook chipping?
Baker07
11/9/2019
I really like this appliance but upon taking the dough hook off the machine today, I saw it was chipped, so clearly some coating is now in the bread dough I made. I'm very surprised (and disappointed) that this happened, given the price point of this machine. Not a happy customer.

I purchased the artisan mixer for my wife in June 2019. She has used the other attachments with no issue, but this weekend the hook snapped into two pieces after just a few minutes of use while mixing bread dough.
Quite disappointed that this attachment was not able to do what it was made to do!

I really love my kitchenAid mixer but this morning when I was making a batch of sguti Easter bread my dough hook broke into two pieces. I am not impressed as upon research it seems it happens quite often! I stepped up and purchased a KitchenAid mixer and didn't expect to have to replace the tools!

Love your products, but in this case you completely fail.
It is not for discussion that your coating is not sufficiently durable. All your answers to the users are that they just have to write to you for an additional talk.
I am considering going to a skilled blacksmith and getting a high quality stainless steel dough hook. It will of course have a relatively high cost price and probably and even offend your copyright, but I want the great satisfaction of having a dough hook that will last the lifetime of your product. Because it is almost indestructible, which was why I originally bought my Kitchen Aid.
Now you've got the idea, I'm going to start soon ...

I got this few years ago & only used it for few times for the bread preparation. I noticed the paint in my dough & realized it coming from the hook. I was shocked & had to discarded my dough. I called the kitchenAid customer service & this has been out of warranty & I need to buy a replacement. After reading other reviews, I hesitate to order a new one. It's very disappointing because the mixer is a great product. Unfortunately it has poor accessories.

This dough hooked worked great until today. After finishing kneading some dough, I took the hook off to find that it had chipped, into my dough. Can't imagine that a hook chipping into my dough is safe to use. Upon reading reviews, it appears that this is a common flaw.

I read more and more reviews about this problem and can only confirm the problem: the coating comes off the dough hook. This was just the second time that it happens to me. And it is clearly a production fail. The drying time for coatings is really important and has not been enough in this case. There should be a recall of these hooks! Incredible

I am surprised that such a high quality company isn't able to provide high quality parts. Me too, I find parts of my hook's coating in my pasta dough... pretty disgusting.

Paint in food = MAJOR health concerns
MargaritaB
7/29/2018
Seriously Kitchenaid? Clearly, you could care less about carcinogenics being released by your products into your customer's food. I have had my mixer for over a decade. The first hook that came with my mixer was unusable due to all the paint that would come off in my dough. After being tired of hand kneading doughs I purchased a new dough hook, figuring that 10+ years later, I would not have the same issue. WRONG!! After two uses paint chipped off into my dough. The hook was washed in cold water, no dishwasher.
Can someone that actually gives a hoot look at the reviews from your own website about this issue? Or will it take someone getting cancer and tracing it back to you to make a change? Utterly deplrorable Kithenaid! As for me, I'm done. I am buying a Cuisinart.

I use the dough hook almost every other day to bake bread. I am on my 4th hook and the paint chipped on all of them. As I am reading these reviews I am not the only one. If it is a known problem why can't there be a version that doesn't chip the paint? The hooks are not cheap and if I have the need to replace them every few months it might be worth to look into another company's mixer.

Coating chipped off, ended in my dough

Came to this page to buy a replacement hook, but was surprised by the reviews, since it looks like we all are having the same problem. After 2 years of use, while the Kithenaid is performing flawlessly, the dough hook is chipped and losing paint. I found out after I bit into a relatively large piece in my pasta. Not fun, and likely not something you want to eat or serve to guests. Attachments shouldn't be disposable items, and should be designed to last as long as the mixer. I find it incredible that a stainless steel version can't be made, even if at a premium price.

Chips and peels right into the dough.
trefoil
10/13/2017
The original dough hook that came with my mixer chipped and peeled. I replaced it less than two years ago, and again, the coating is peeling and chipping. This is not a result of putting it in a dishwasher, as I don't have one. When i called, i was advised that it is only covered by warranty for only one year, making the dough hook disposable. It is clear from the US site that this is an ongoing problem, and needs to be corrected, either by fixing the coating, or by offering a non-coated variety. It does not appear that KitchenAid is interested in doing this to keep customers. I intend to replace my mixer with a more powerful model, and this is making me reconsider my intention to get another KitchenAid.
Also, having to pay $9 in shipping on a $19 item is just a kick in the teeth when i'm replacing a defective product.

Chipped coating falling into my dough. I am over it and have thrown it out. I have just spent an hour shopping online for a STAINLESS STEEL version of this dough hook for my Artisan KSM150 mixer and absolutely cannot believe it does not exist. Or does it, and I just cannot find it? I do not want an aluminum version due to the terrible reviews. Stainless steel. Willing to pay more for it. Customer service: I am disappointed to read previous reviews and see the same customer service cookie-cutter response. Please get rid of the impersonal copy and paste. It shows a lack of concern and indicates poor department training.

paint is falling off my dough hook
11/29/2016
As many others i have also experienced the paint chipping off. I bake bread about 2-3 times a month and have used it for about 1-2 years. My main problem is getting paint chips in my bread. there is about 2-3 square cm of paint missing on the hook. I assume it is in my stomach now. I expected higher quality of a machine in this price range.

broken! bread hook
10/28/2016
I love to use the bread hook, especially to make soft pretzels and pizza dough. My machine has not been used often since I got it about 20 years ago because it is too heavy to lift and move around. Recently, I remodeled my kitchen and provided a slide out shelf to accommodate the mixer and use it more often. While kneading some dough last week, the hook just snapped in two pieces! The dough was soft and pliable and should not have caused well-constructed metal to break. Chips of the coating came off and fell onto the dough. I had to start from scratch and use my Cuisinart instead.

coating chipped.
6/10/2016
I read other people's reviews and noted that they also had same issued that I had. The nylon coating was chipped from the cone side of the bottom and the egg shell like coating pieces were in my breads. Then, later I found that those pieces were from the hook. Therefore, I threw the hook away two times. Then, I bought a burnished beater and it has another problem. Now, I need to find another beater and the hook which won't have any problem that I had before. Otherwise, I need to buy multiple hooks/beaters to exchange every time to find grey gunk or chips?

Chipping Nylon Coating
1/16/2016
The dough hook works great. I use it for making bread most weekends, and have for almost five years, when we received our KitchenAid KSM150PS (Pistachio Green!). A few weeks back I noticed what looked like egg shells in my dough. Turns out it was nylon coating from the hook. It is now chipping and coming off at an accelerate rate. I can't use the dough hook any more. I would prefer an all metal version, that I don't have to worry about stuff chipping off into my food.
